Pricing FAQ

How much does a fishing charter cost in Costa Rica?
Fishing charter prices in Costa Rica vary by boat, trip length, and season. At Coyote Sport Fishing, half-day charters start at $475-$950 and full-day offshore expeditions range from $750-$1,400. Prices include professional crew, all fishing equipment, bait, and beverages. Peak season (Dec-Apr) rates are higher due to demand. We offer the best direct rates — no intermediary commissions.
Which boat should I choose?
It depends on your group size, budget, and goals. Coyote Tres (35ft) is our flagship — best for serious offshore trips targeting marlin and sailfish with groups of 4-6. Flamingo II (31ft) is versatile and great value for both inshore and offshore. Salsa (27ft) is our most affordable option — ideal for smaller groups, families, and half-day trips. Not sure? Call us and we will recommend the right boat.
What is included in the charter price?
Every charter includes a professional bilingual captain and mate, all fishing equipment (rods, reels, tackle, lures), live and dead bait, ice and coolers, fish cleaning and filleting, safety equipment, and beverages. Full-day trips on Coyote Tres also include lunch. You only need to bring sunscreen, comfortable clothes, and your INCOPESCA fishing license.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. Every person fishing must have a valid INCOPESCA license. These are NOT included in the charter price. Purchase online before your trip at the INCOPESCA website. A tourist license (1-8 days) costs approximately $15-17 USD. We can walk you through the process — just ask when booking.
What is the difference between half-day and full-day?
Half-day charters (4-5 hours) are ideal for inshore fishing — roosterfish, snapper, and jacks close to shore. Full-day charters (8-9 hours) are recommended for offshore fishing because you need 1-2 hours of travel time each way to reach the deep water where marlin, sailfish, and tuna live. A full day gives you 5-6 hours of productive fishing at the best grounds.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is our top priority. If conditions are unsafe, we offer a full refund or free reschedule — no questions asked. We never charge for weather cancellations. Our captains make the call based on sea conditions, not just rain. Light rain is fine for fishing; rough seas are not.
How far in advance should I book?
For peak season (December through April), book 3-4 weeks in advance. Holiday weeks (Christmas, New Year, spring break) can sell out 6+ weeks ahead. Green season (May-October) is more flexible — 1-2 weeks is usually fine, but booking early guarantees your preferred boat and date.
