How Boarding Works in Tamarindo

One of the most common questions we get from first-time visitors is: "Where do I board the boat?" In Tamarindo, we use a traditional and efficient water taxi service directly from the beach. Here's how it works:

  1. Our team meets you at the designated pick-up point on the beach (near the north end of Tamarindo Beach)
  2. A small panga (local skiff) ferries you out to your charter boat anchored in the bay
  3. The ride takes about 2 minutes. Quick, safe, and part of the adventure

What to Expect

  • Your feet will get wet. Wear sandals or water shoes for the short wade to the panga
  • Boarding takes place in calm, shallow water
  • Our crew assists with all gear and helps everyone aboard safely
  • The whole process from beach to charter boat takes under 5 minutes

Pro Tips for Tamarindo Beach Boarding

  • Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled departure
  • Bring a dry bag or waterproof phone pouch for electronics
  • Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little splash on
  • Sunscreen goes on before you get to the beach. You're in the sun immediately

Getting to Tamarindo

Fly into Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia (airport code LIR). From there, Tamarindo is approximately 1 hour by car. We can help arrange private airport transfers to make the logistics seamless.

Parking & Logistics

  • Street and lot parking is available near the beach
  • Nearby restaurants and shops for pre-trip coffee or breakfast
  • The beach pick-up point is easy to find — we'll send you exact coordinates when you book

World-Class Fishing, Right from the Beach

From Tamarindo Beach, you have access to all of Guanacaste's incredible fishing grounds — the Gulf of Papagayo, the Catalina Islands, offshore seamounts, and the inshore reefs. Our captains know these waters inside and out.

The water taxi boarding is part of what makes fishing in Tamarindo an authentic Costa Rica experience. It's quick, safe, and gets you on the water fast.
